Welcome parents of room2! This is my classroom blog to keep you informed of important items happening with our school and your child this year. This is an area where you as a parent can ask questions and make comments, and I encourage you to do so. The PTA's fundraiser this year is to help our class with technology. I hope that through this blog I can explain what we need and how technology can expand your child's education.
I understand some parents feel that classroom technology is a waste of time, with kids just playing games on a computer or using the internet to search for inappropriate things. I believe that learning through games can be a fun way to learn but I think there are many other ways to reach a student. I also will ensure that there are filtering tools on the computers that allow the school to monitor and control what online activities are available. It is my hope that by incorporating different uses of technology, I can provide your children with a broader education that can present them with more opportunities in their future endeavors.
There are two technology items that I feel would increase our overall learning experience this year:
1. E-Books - Reading is one of the most important skills your children need to continually improve on in every grade. My job as a teacher is to make reading fun and easily accessible. E-Books are lightweight and portable which makes them easy and convenient. E-Books can hold up to 1,500 books which makes them cheaper than physical textbooks. 2. Laptops - We are definitely living in a technological age. I would like to have a laptop for each student in my classroom. Laptops will allow the students to work independently or in small groups because they can be easily transported. Teaching students by looking and experiencing things firsthand is more engaging for them. Please check out more information about laptops at the Apple Store, here.
In conclusion, I want to like ask for your help by participating in this fundraiser for your children. I believe that they can all benefit from having an E-Book and a laptop at their disposal in the classroom.
